What happens if, for a moment, we suspend the idea that a work of art must be completed?

YA DA emerges precisely within the space opened up by this question. Oğuz Yalım’s geometric visual language, informed by his background in architecture and design, encounters sculptor Asaf Erdemli’s practice of transforming metal into line, volume, and space. These two distinct languages do not come together to complete one another, but rather to enter each other’s territory and redefine it. Each intervention creates a new situation for the other; every response alters the conditions for what follows. Thus, work ceases to be a predetermined outcome and becomes a process that keeps possibilities open.

Every work of art, in taking its place in the physical world, creates a space of its own. Here, however, the encounter renders that boundary permeable: metal sculpture enters the space constructed by the painting; line breaks away from the surface and takes on volume; void becomes part of the composition. Dissonance, no less than harmony, becomes part of this new structure. One line may extend another, redirect it, or open up an unexpected territory altogether. In this way, new spaces emerge between painting and sculpture, spaces that previously belonged to neither.
